finished this great book "colours of the mountain" a memoir by da chen. captures the funny side of life as the author grows up in the dusty village of yellow stone in china during the cultural revolution.
as landords the chen family have been stripped of their wealth and status and the only thing they have is their pride and empty stomachs. young chen is ostracized and has difficulty in attending schools where he is citimized regularly. the decade long cultural revolution screws up everyone's lives but chen being the youngest des not bear the brunt so much, moreover he is lousy at field work.
chen's descriptions of his grandfather, his father ad his four "spiritual brothers" are really captivating and can bring a tear to the eye.ultiimately he makes it to the college despite all odds.highly recommended!!
